The Duck Pond at Berry College

The Duck Pond at Berry College

Berry College in Rome, Georgia was founded in 1902. One of the hallmarks of the Berry experience was that students could work to pay for their tuition. The result is that most of the buildings were built originally by students with overseers. The Old Mill was built with generous donations from the industrialist, Henry Ford. The Ford Buildings are a neo Gothic group of buildings that are reminiscent of what you might expect of an old college in England.

There is a Chapel built in the style of the neo gothic style located about a mile away from the Ford Buildings. You follow the signs through a narrow winding road lined with tree. Wildlife are protected on the campus, and I saw approximately 50 deer walking in small groups on my last visit.
The neo gothic arches at the Frost Chapel at Berry. It sits on a small hill and looks over a large lawn. It is very popular with Berry students and many return to be married inside.

Halfway between the Fords and Frost sits a small stream and pond. The road crosses the stream and there is a small parking lot and here sits the Duck Pond.
The Duck pond is a retaining pond which feeds several other wetland ponds. It is an excellent place to take photos at anytime in the day. It is heavily shaded, with a small dam to allow controlled pool depth. The following photos were from my last visit.
