San Marcello al Corso

Well I had several pleasant surprises in Rome this Autumn, and one of them was just up from the Pamphilj Gallery. While walking to the Museum Pamphilj which you should definitely stop in to see, I saw this baroque church on my right. I crossed the busy street to stop in and was wonderfully surprised at what I discovered.
Another baroque masterpiece. Began in 1592 completed in 1697. Carlo Fontana completed the facade. Fontana of Saint Peter’s Fame.
It is breathtaking to walk in and look up to the ceiling.
I particularly liked the back oval part of the church called the Aspe.
The church has lavish incense burners and lamps. I photographed several and will only show a couple of the wonderful pieces that make it worth a stop.
Finally, I think the most ornate piece on the interior is the pulpit. Wow
Thank you for walking with me through Church of San Marcello al Corso.

That photo of the lamp with the angels holding it is particularly beautiful. I think another trip to Rome, and wandering into places like this, is in my future.
