High Shoals Falls in July

High Shoals Falls in July

One of my favorite hikes of the past year was at High Shoals Falls in the South Mountains State Park in North Carolina. It was December, 10, 2023 and I only saw one person the entire time I was there for about 4 hours on the trails. I decided to go again to see the difference between early winter and mid summer.

It is worth the just over one mile trek to get to see the Falls. I had been sick for over two weeks and it was frankly a much tougher hike than I could remember. I had to stop several times to catch my breath. The elevation is a little higher than normal and between the two of those caused a little discomfort. Probably why I fell in the river again.
Fell in up to the knee. It was kind of refreshing.

The weather was giving us a break from nor July heat, and the trail is covered, so you are walking around under a canopy. The only problem was that I bet 500 people decided to take a walk there too. The trail was choked. There are places where only one person can pass at a time. Once I had to let ten people go by and right behind them were 25 more.

Trail was pretty but I rarely got to take a photo without someone in it.
Despite my misfortunes there were still a lot of shots to take.
Couple shots near the river

I would like to return, but I recommend that if you can try to go during the week. I will probably only go in late Autumn or Early Winter. Those are my favorite times anyway.

Thank you for traveling with me.
